Where has this church come in almost 200 years? Where will we be in another 200? Would you settle for 20 years – or even two? In his last sermon until January, Rev. Chandler considers the past – and the possibilities of our future.

Our three goals for the evening are to sell-out (200 tickets), raise $1,000 for the church and treat ourselves and the community to a wonderful performance in our beautiful Sanctuary.

Ingrid Ayer-Richardson and Susan Mathews share a love of acoustic and a cappella music. “Pretty Girls Sing Soprano” gave their premiere performance at the Saco Coffeehouse, in our Parish Hall, in the fall of 2010. For those of us there that night—I don’t have to make a “hard sell.” If your calendar is free, I know you will get tickets. For those of us that weren’t—we missed something special! I recently attended the “Women in Harmony” concerts Moving On: Immigration in Song. Ingrid and Susan performed a duet of an original song written by Susan—wow! Don’t miss their encore performance at our church.

Patrick Colgan (aka Paddy) now adds a smooth tenor and a dash of killer guitar licks to “Pretty Girls.” Their harmonies turn heads as they perform a variety of Bluegrass, folk, and Americana tunes. Jennie Backstrom, formerly with the duo “PresenTense,” is a popular Coffeehouse performer with sweet vocals backed by keyboard and mandolin. She performed (for free) at our Spring for Community Auction in March and was awesome.

Led by the Membership/Welcoming Committee, we will carry out our official greeting and celebration of those who have recently “signed the book” to become members. There will be special music from instrumentalists and the choir.

Deferred from November, but not forgotten – ask the minister! Bill Cosby’s timeless question may be on your mind. Ask away! Ask some old ones. Ask some new ones. Ask anything at all. David will provide an answer before we fire up the grill.

Join us to honor and thank all those who have assisted in religious education activities this church year. Our children and teachers will be featured. Rev. Chandler will help with the recognition of graduates as they move on to new horizons.

The SPC explains it all to you – well, a lot of it anyway. They have been working all year to insure the worship and ministry of our community – and its operations and programs – thrive while David is away Sept. 1 – Dec. 31.

“Illness as metaphor” is Susan Sontag’s famous proposition. But how do we understand our relationship to those who are ill – and theirs to us? When physical or mental capacity is diminished, what new possibilities might be available?
